The energy audit certification program is a mandate for anyone who wishes to become a RESNET HERS rater or energy auditor under any other standards. A person who finishes the exam is not allowed to rate a building directly. They have a series of post energy auditor certification process to comply with. The first 5 ratings that a newly certified auditor undertakes is classified as probationary ratings. A reviewing authority for grading the person’s work verifies the probationary ratings. The trainer under whom the person has completed his or her energy auditor training supervises 2 of the probationary ratings. A new auditor is expected to complete all these probationary audits within one year from which he has obtained his certificate. The auditor who makes these reviews is also expected to make apt suggestions or improvements that can be done on the fields where the building is lagging. To make such a mark on the pit falls, the auditor has to stay updated about the techniques and devices that help conserve energy. It is for this reason the post certification process requires the auditor to attend classroom session of about 12hours in a year. This session is also a mandate to keep the certification acquired by the person to be valid.
